No Caucus Set to Replace Larwill Councilman

Posted
LARWILL - Council members Rick Hobbs and Lore Wolfe held the Aug. 9 meeting without a third member as Rick Flauding announced his resignation effective at the July meeting.

Flauding presented his letter of resignation to the Whitley County Clerk's office last week and a Republican caucus to appoint a third member has not been set.

Hobbs and Wolfe reviewed three quotes for installation of a heating and air conditioning system at town hall. Bids with several options were received from Masters Heating and Cooling of Fort Wayne; Redman Plumbing and Heating and Flow-Tech Plumbing and Heating both of Columbia City. A decision on the project was tabled until the next meeting.

It was noted that Squawbuck Days is August 24, 25 and 26. Larry Secrist said there are a few surprises planned with the addition of a dunk tank and a concert Saturday night by Frank and the High Times beginning at 6:30 pm. Most festival events are in and around the Larwill - Richland Township Fire Station on the east side of town where there is a large community room.

Secrist said he's talked to two sellers of rock salt and ice melt about purchasing these items for the upcoming winter. Last year the council purchased a truck and a plow for snow removal. The town will apply ice melting material to the streets, too.

"With this being our first winter, we won't know how much to buy," Hobs noted.

Clerk-treasurer Renee Sills said the town budget hearing was set for September 13 with adoption at the October 11 meeting.

Sprucing up the sidewalks with an application of yellow paint was discussed. Hobbs suggested that people owing community service hours do preparation work on the sidewalks and streets prior to painting the curbs.

Claims for were given as $6,406.02 with deposits of $6,642.59 and an account balances of $398,254.32
