No. 7 Tippy Valley Falls To NorthWoodAKRON – Foul troubles and a rough shooting night combined to hurt 3A No. 7 Tippecanoe Valley in its 50-41 loss to visiting NorthWood in a non-conference girls basketball game Tuesday night. Both teams hit 16 shots from the floor, including four three-pointers, but the Lady Vikings were whistled for 23 fouls to NorthWood’s 12. The Lady Panthers hit just 14 of 27 free throws, but Valley made five of eight in the game. Three-time Times-Union Player of the Year Anne Secrest was held to five points before fouling out. “I think we shot 27 percent from two-point range. We struggled finding the basket tonight. Sometimes when you have nights like that, you have to step it up defensively,” Valley head coach Chris Kindig said. “It seemed like every loose ball went their way, every call went their way, and it’s one of those things where it seemed the ball just bounced the wrong way. It’s just tough. “But if I was going to say we’re going to play two games this week, and we can only win one, it’d be Saturday night (at home vs. Rochester) rather than tonight. I realize NorthWood might be a sectional opponent, and I hoped we’d play a little bit better tonight, but it didn’t go our way.” Sophie Bussard led the Lady Vikings with 16 points, and Emily Peterson had 11 points for Valley. NorthWood’s Savannah Feenstra led all scorers with 14 points, and Taitlyn Trenshaw had 13 for the Lady Panthers (13-6). Valley (14-4) hosts Three Rivers Conference and backyard rival Rochester (9-9) at 7:45 p.m. Saturday. NorthWood hosts Northern Lakes Conference leader Northridge (20-1) Saturday night in Nappanee.
