NIPSCO Strike

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
Last Thursday night, we lost electricity at 8:12 p.m. We called - they said they were aware of the outage. It was only on LaVista Drive and maybe on Short Ridge, too. At 8 the next morning, another call resulted in a 10:15 estimated time. Later a call produced a 2:15 estimate. After that, the estimate was 8 p.m. Power was back at 7:50. A NIPSCO car brought a man. (I think a NIPSCO supervisor.) There were two boom trucks but they were not NIPSCO trucks. I discovered the reason on the late news. NIPSCO locked ot the men who normally fix outages.
With over 23 hours to fix one, possibly two streets, I would hate to see what a big storm would do.
There was loss of frozen and refrigerated food. The day after the outage, an employee of the contracted company knocked on the door and said, in spite of lights on, “I hear your power’s out.”
Side note, the whole of LaVista drive is on well water so no electric, no water.
