Nearly 600 NIPSCO customers were without power in the Warsaw area for about two hours this morning.
A circuit was affected in the Warsaw substation, according to Julia Vandewater of NIPSCO. Linemen and the substation manager were on the scene shortly after the outage began at 8:55 a.m.
Power was restored to most customers by 10:35 a.m.
Vandewater said the cause of the outage remains unknown and is under investigation.
Once it was determined that the lines in the area were clear - there were no limbs down on wires or animals carcasses in transformers - NIPSCO workers were able to restore power to the area. No traffic accidents were reported in the area either.
The outage was scattered, with several areas of downtown Warsaw affected, as well as areas east of the downtown area.
Vandewater said safety is the No. 1 priority for both NIPSCO workers and customers and that surveying the lines can take some time before that determination is made.
