Artists in Cass, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Huntington, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley counties were encouraged to submit their work for possible exhibition in the Honeywell Center's Clark Gallery. The art will be on display through Wednesday.
From Warsaw to Russiaville to Huntington to Marion, 79 pieces of art were selected from 130 works submitted by 48 artists from across the nine-county region for display. Top honors were given to six artists in each of the three categories: painting, watercolor and drawing and pastels. Warsaw resident Steve Creighton won the exhibition's Best of Show award.
"Every year I am amazed at the remarkable talent this art show draws in," said Bonnie McKee, gallery manager for the Honeywell Center. "It shows the dedication and passion people in northeast Indiana have for the fine arts."
Two judges from Manchester College's art department - James R.C. Adams and Thelma Rohrer - were asked to determine which pieces to display after artists submitted their work to the Honeywell Center on Feb. 18.
"The judges have a very tough job," McKee continued. "They spend hours pouring over the artwork, deciding which works to exhibit."
Local winners in the painting category include: first place, Steve Creighton, Warsaw, "Aspen Leaves," Best of Show; Steve Creighton, Warsaw, "Apples & Jug", second place; Susan Ring, North Manchester, "All Honked Off," third place; Marilyn Kruger, Akron, "View from the Top," honorable mention.
Local winners in the watercolor category include: Susan Ring, North Manchester, "Show and Tell Time," Second Place; Lisa Cumberland, Rochester, "Two In The Bush," Third Place; Nicole Moore, Winona Lake, "Neighbors & Friends," honorable mention.
