Nicholas G. “Nick” Xanders, 67, passed away Feb. 15, 2015, at the Reid Heart Center, Pinehurst, N.C., surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Omaha, Neb., to William and Dorothea Xanders. He was married to Mary, who survives. He was a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago and received his master’s degree in business administration from Butler University. He worked in Indianapolis for Tolley International for 11 years, and then relocated to New York. He was the vice president of PIA for 27 years. While in New York, he was an actuarial consultant by day, beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach and mentor by night and weekend. He was involved with youth baseball and youth soccer and impacted many lives through his guidance and wisdom. He retired at 54 and relocated to Foxfire, N.C., to enjoy his retirement with his wife. The Foxcroft Tree Farm was established in 2003. The farm was the second phase of Nick’s life. Through the farm he was able to meet and enjoy new people whom he called friends. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, the outdoors, golf, his friends and traveling. Also surviving are his sister, Clare Bredell; four children: Nicholas (and Penny), Nicole, Erika and Derek (and Kylie); six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sally, who died in February 1991. A funeral mass was today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
