Though his name wasn’t announced in Thursday’s draft, former Warsaw Community High School and SMU standout Nic Moore is still getting a shot at the NBA. According to numerous reports, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Moore has been offered a spot on the Miami Heat’s summer league roster for play in Orlando and Las Vegas. The Samsung NBA Summer League dates for Orlando are July 2-8, while the dates for Las Vegas are July 8-18. The Heat didn’t have any picks in this year’s draft, and have offered summer league spots to Moore, David Walker (Northeastern), Stefan Jankovic (Hawaii), Damion Lee (Louisville), Nathan Boothe (Toledo), Chris Obepka (St. John’s) and Michael Carrera (South Carolina). Moore played his freshman season at Illinois State University before transferring to SMU, where he played for coach Larry Brown. Moore was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year during his junior and senior seasons. This past season, Moore averaged 16 points and five assists per game, leading the conference in both categories, and led SMU to a 25-5 record. Moore played in 135 college games and finished with 1,811 points, 643 assists, 312 rebounds and 169 steals. A four-year starter at WCHS for coach Doug Ogle, Moore led the Tigers to two sectional championships, including a Class 4A state runner-up in 2010. Moore, who graduated from WCHS in 2011 and was an Indiana All-Star and Mr. Basketball runner-up, finished his prep career second on Warsaw’s scoring list with 1,891 points.
