NFL?Disgrace

Editor, Times-Union:

The NFL has become a prime example of disgrace. Some  children and others in our country believe these athletes are brave for kneeling down for what they think is right.

These guys make over a million dollars, get paid to do something they like and the ones that kneel are clueless to the insults they are committing. They’re not brave, just  ignorant, and in some cases, plain stupid.

The media does a great job of showing these  men on their knees while the national anthem is playing and the flag is waving. But they fail to extend the full story of the people booing them and giving them a universal hand sign.

When they kneel, they insult every veteran and their families who have served our great country. So for those of you who see these guys as cool, here is a reality check.

It starts with a young man or women leaving their family and the worry and sleepless nights begin. Many times, they go to a foreign country. If they have been in combat they have seen their friends die. They have smelled and seen death. They are always in a stressed state of mind. If they come home, their memories haunt them day and night, often times with no way to escape the emotional drama. It may take years to calm down, but they never forget – ever!

No, these spoiled mindless sports athletes are not brave. They are disrespectful fools that deserve a boot in the butt.

We all have the freedom of speech because of what all veterans went through for the freedom  to express our opinions in the land of the brave and home of the free. But we also need to remember we are responsible for our actions and words.

It might be wise for a select few in our educational system  to remember they should be more responsible for the words they choose to use regarding the red, white and blue.

I will end with a note of praise to the parents and kids at a recent local football game. Due to technical difficulties, they could not play the national anthem. These kids and parents stood and sang it out loud with heart! You were my heroes that night! Proud of you and God bless America.
