Your most recent News Views column caught me a bit off guard. Do you actually mean that you expected something different than what we are getting? Really?

If this is true, then I submit that you weren't being optimistic, you were being willfully deceived. Please tell me what had your hopes up? I've not seen anything of this government in my short life that has made me hopeful, and on top of that I have been one of the people screaming that all if this was coming for many years. No one wanted to listen, and the people that might have been able to change it are now firmly sitting with their heads between their knees with their ears completely blocked. No one wants to admit their own complicity in this and your comments prove that you are one of those.

No one that has their eyes open is surprised by this, but given that 53 percent of the voters actually voted for this abomination, that means that less than half of everyone else left are willing to call things by their names. I say less than half because there are a certain percentage of those that voted against this abomination that only did so to stay with "their party."

There are many others, however, that have been speaking out, did you ignore them? Or do you only pay attention to what comes across your wire services?

I have no party, no political affiliation and am not owned by someone paying my wage who expects certain "positions" of me. I vote for the individual and there have been few that deserve my vote.

Please! If this situation actually surprises you as you seem to have said, then perhaps you are in the wrong business for logic and reality has escaped you yet again. Exactly what did you see that gave you hope?
