Warsaw Lions Club To Hand Out Peppermint Candies At First Friday Event

Warsaw Lions Club will be handing out peppermint candies at this October’s First Friday event in honor of International White Cane Day, and to help raise awareness of white cane traffic laws.

The white cane is the international symbol of independence, achievements, mobility and safety for people who are blind or visually impaired.

International White Cane Day (Oct. 15) is an international observance and celebrates the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired.

The Lions Club welcomes everyone to come visit their booth to help celebrate the achievements of the blind and the visionally impaired, and to help raise awareness of white cane traffic safety laws.

Wawasee Choir Concert Is Oct. 9

SYRACUSE – Wawasee High School Choral Department will present its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the high school auditorium

Tickets are $5 for general admission.  Children 5 and under are free.

The theme of the concert is “Americana.” It will feature music and lyrics of American composers and poets. It also will feature patriotic favorites.

The concert will begin with Vocal Motion presenting the national anthem.

The Beginning Chorus will entertain with “Wabash Cannonball” and “Imagine.”

The Advanced Chorus girls will sing “Shady Grove,” “Three Quotes” by Mark Twain and “I Hear America Singing.”

Vocal Motion will sing and dance to two of their competition numbers. Their songs are “Like a Meteorite” and “Stars.” Choreographer for the group is Damon Brown. Dance captain is Sadie Cowan.

“Across America In Three Minutes,” “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” and “An American Anthem” will be performed by all of the combined choirs at the conclusion of the program.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Meets Tuesday

An Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA, 1305 Mariners Drive, Warsaw. 

The meeting is sponsored by Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana.

The group meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Y. Caregivers of a loved one who has dementia are welcome to come for encouragement and sharing.

The meetings are facilitated by Karen Kauffman, who has been leading small group discussions on many types of dementia and their challenges for more than 10 years.
