Nisly: Apply For A Statehouse Internship

Indiana House Republicans are accepting internship applications for the 2019 legislative session, which begins in January, according to State Rep. Curt Nisly.

Nisly said the House Republican Internship Program is a unique opportunity for college students and graduates to participate in state government and gain hands-on experience. This paid internship at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis takes place during the spring semester and gives students the chance to work one-on-one with state legislators.

“Just over half of all internship positions are paid, and this opportunity provides compensation and college credit,” Nisly said.

Internships are open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors. Students can apply for internships in a variety of areas, focusing on legislative, communications and media relations, policy or fiscal policy.

These are full-time positions, Monday through Friday, lasting from January through April. In addition to biweekly compensation of $750, interns can earn academic credit through their college or university, and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate or graduate expenses.

More information about the House internship program and the application can be found at www.indianahouserepublicans.com/internship. Nisly said the application deadline is Oct. 31.

In addition to these events, WCHS will hold freshman orientation from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Performing Arts Center.

To provide added flexibility for parents and students, there will be two presentation time slots at 5:15 and 7:15 p.m. Parents need only to attend one of these sessions as the same information will be covered each time. These presentations allow parents to hear important information regarding the school year and meet and hear from key school figures, including the freshman grade-level principal Matt Barrett. All incoming freshmen and their parents are invited to attend. Other class-level meetings will take place during enrichment periods Aug. 16 to provide further information for students in each grade level.
