Skate Competition Saturday Mantis Skate Park will host its annual skate park competition Saturday. The event is at 400 Little League Drive in Boggs Industrial Park. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at the park., with competition starting at 11 a.m. The cost to register is $5 per skater. Admission for spectators is free, and the community is encouraged to come enjoy the competition. Skaters will participate in one of four divisions: beginner, novice, intermediate and professional. Prizes will be awarded in each division. The rain date for the competition will be Aug. 9. Mantis Skate Park is owned and operated by Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department. Warsaw Elks Holds Golf Scramble Warsaw Elks Lodge #802 held its 8th Annual Jimmy Baker Memorial Scramble Sunday at The Rozella Ford Country Club. There were 100 golfers who participated in the charity event supporting The Jimmy Baker Memorial Diabetes Fund and two college scholarships for seniors in Kosciusko County. Elliott’s Trailers and Carts donated a golf cart for a hole-in-one prize. Spectators and golfers enjoyed a day of fun, prizes and steak dinner following the tournament in the evening. The low round and $200 first place prize went to Steve Garza, Kayla Brown, Bobby Likens and Ryan Sloan.
DUI Checkpoints Scheduled County and local law enforcement agencies participating in the Kosciusko County DUI Taskforce will continue to conduct roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints during the months of July. The project is made possible through grants received by the Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The Kosciusko County DUI Taskforce has scheduled checkpoints from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on July 25. WCPL Hosting Guitar Concert Warsaw Community Public Library is hosting a Classical Guitar Music concert Tuesday. The event is at 6:30 p.m. Michael Wadkins is a freelance composer and is finishing his bachelor’s degree in Music Technology at IPFW. He has played guitar for 8 years and studied classical music for 4 years. He will be playing music from Spain, Germany, Austria, Brazil, and Cuba with selections from Tarrega, Weiss, Mertz, Villa-Lobos, and Brouwer spanning from late Baroque to present day. Kurt Roembke is a student at IPFW finishing two degrees in Music Technology and Music Performance. He has played guitar for 9 years with a variety of groups and ensembles ranging from classical, jazz and rock. He will be playing music from Germany and Spain with selections from Weiss and Sor from the Baroque and Classical eras.
