New Kiddieland Playground Installation Near Completion

Posted

The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Board was updated on several work projects at its meeting on Tuesday.
One of them was the completion of the new playground equipment at Kiddieland by the Zimmer Biomet Center Lake Pavilion.
"They started putting the ... rubber down today around the playground equipment, and they look to finish that up tomorrow (Aug. 20)," said Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Larry Plummer. "Then it needs a 24-hour period to dry."
He added a rope replacement would be made for a piece of equipment. Plummer said a ribbon-cutting for the playground could be held after that.
Plummer said workers should start milling parking lots near the Biblical Gardens.
"The funds have been encumbered to mill and pave the lot in front of the Biblical Gardens and (a lot) south of that lot," he said.
Plummer said Phend & Brown will begin work Friday.
He said a sidewalk project at Central Park should start after Labor Day.
"The Pike Lake restrooms, we actually started that today, the tear-out," said Plummer. "We're going to put new (Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible) sidewalks all the way around the restroom. We're taking out the steep sidewalk and stairs that go to the parking lot, and we're going to have it handicapped-accessible from the parking lot to the ramp."
He said city workers were doing the tear-out, with Butt and Timmons Construction adding the concrete.
In other business, the board:
• Approved allowing the Hoosier Lakes Radio Club to use Bixler Park in January 2026 for its Winter Field Day and Beyer Park in June 2026 for its Summer Field Day.
• Heard that Parks Department carpenter Mark Mikel was named the Team Member of the Month for July.
• Heard from Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Director Stephanie Schaefer that 6,000 to 7,000 people attended the free Country Concert for St. Jude at Central Park in July and the Family Carnival earlier this month "went really well."
• Heard a reminder from Schaefer that Touch-a-Truck is noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 in Central Park.
• Heard that the parks department is partnering with Parkview Health for a concert at Lucerne Park on Tuesday, Aug. 26. It will be at 7 p.m., with Heartland Sings putting on the concert.
The board's next meeting is 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Warsaw City Hall.
