New Coordinator Introduced At Solid Waste Board Meeting

Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District has a new coordinator.
Director Tom Ganser introduced Janelle Meyer as the education outreach and marketing coordinator at the KCSWMD Board meeting on Tuesday.
She comes to the district having last worked for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kosciusko County as its program manager.
Ganser said Meyer has "a lot of social work experience, but with that she has done program development (and) some management.
"She has also done a lot of social media promotional work, so that one person we were kind of looking for ... she does it all," he said.
Meyer lives in Winona Lake with her husband and two children.
"We're excited to have her and she's jumping in with both feet and trying to run just as fast as she can learn," said Ganser.
Meyer's tasks include managing the district's social media and educating kids about recycling.
Pick-up In Communities
The board also agreed to set $25,000 in its 2026 budget for putting rolloff containers for disposal in communities throughout the county.
Ganser said he met recently with town clerks from around the county. Hee said, "They wanted us to have remote electronics recycling.
"When they're doing (their town cleanup days), if we could put some (gaylord containers) in, they would like to have that for the residents that come in," he said.
He said adding rolloff containers for cardboard and other items would also be an idea for "maybe twice a year doing cleanups" in the communities.
"You're looking at $23,500 (for the rolloff containers)," said Ganser.
He said he estimated that number based on everything put in the containers being trash, although the hope is the containers would be used for recycling.
The board agreed to set the money aside, but made no final decisions on how the community recycling would work.
In other business, the board:
• Agreed to have a proposed budget of $529,870 for the district for 2026. The county will have to okay that amount.
• Heard that 233 customers recycled tires during the depot's recent tire recycling event.
The board's next meeting is 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the depot.
