Multi-Township Emergency Medical Services has improved its service to the community with the purchase of a new ambulance.
M-TEMS Director Scott Sigerfoos said the new ambulance, made by Road Rescue in Winter Park, Fla., was put into service in late June.
He said it will be used primarily in the Warsaw area.
The ambulance has many features including devices for narcotic control and custom-designed interior that makes patient treatment easier and safer for patients and EMTs.
The ambulance dubbed Medic 5 replaced an aging truck, which had been used by the service for nearly a decade.
Medic 5 had an initial $145,000 price tag. When all the medical equipment was added to the truck, the cost exceeded $200,000.
“It’s a large investment for us,” Sigerfoos observed, “but we feel it is well worth the cost. This will allow us to better serve the community with cutting-edge technology and highly advanced pre-hospital protocols.”
The service added two new ambulances in 2010. M-TEMS has eight ambulances serving portions of Kosciusko and Marshall counties.
It also had a rapid response vehicle, Squad 1, and an offroad, all-terrain gator for emergency rescues in remote areas.
M-TEMS was founded in 1976 as a basic ambulance service with two ambulances and one station.
It now is a paramedic service with 58 full- and part-time employees and six stations.
