Nelson Henry Holloway, 88, of Burket, died at 4:32 p.m. Feb. 29, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Burket, to Mace Allen and Ida Pearl Matthews Holloway. On Feb. 23, 1946, in Warsaw, he married Gladys Marie Bell, who survives.

He was inducted into the U.S.  Army Feb. 19, 1943, in Warsaw. Pvt. Nelson Henry Holloway was honorably discharged July 28, 1943, through Fort Swift, Texas.

He was a truck driver, a lathe assembler at Clausing Inc. for 13 years, then was a maintenance supervisor for Warsaw Community Schools for 20 years.

He was a 1942 graduate of Burket High School and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He had a quick wit. He was the best husband and dad in the world. Even after a busy day at work he still made time to play ball or something fun with the children. He dearly loved his grandchildren and was able to see all of his great-grandchildren. He was a tinkerer and handy man who could fix anything – fans, sweepers and cars to name only a few.

Also surviving are two daughters, Beulah Vanon (and spouse Paul) Onstott, Burket, and Nancy Lee (and spouse Steve) Mikel, Farmington Hills, Mich.; a son, Barry Nelson (and spouse Karen) Holloway, Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren: Troy (and spouse Suzanne) Brindle; Scott (and spouse Kelly) Mikel; Chad (and spouse Tanya) Mikel; Tammy Mikel; Daniel (and spouse Chelsea) Mikel; and Amber and Marisa Holloway; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Phillips and Geraldine (and spouse Robert) Hawley, all of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Margaret Zimmerman, Loretta Holloway and Marilyn Hall; and two brothers, Arden and Charles Holloway.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Scott Mikel, grandson. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of the American Legion.

Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
