Ned A. HeighwayAKRON – Ned A. Heighway, 78, of Akron, passed surrounded by his family at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at his residence.

Ned was born on April 21, 1944, in Rochester, to the late Robert O. and Ruth Eleanor Hamilton Heighway. Ned was married on June 20, 1965, in Rochester,  to Linda L. Severns; she survives.

Ned was a 1962 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He worked for Lau Industries for 42 years, retiring in 2010. While at Lau he served as treasurer of the UAW. Ned farmed and ran his own body shop from home in his spare time. He was a lifetime member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. He served his community as the caretaker of the Nichols Cemetery since his father’s passing. He was a 10-year 4-H member and later became a leader of the Kosciusko County Horse and Pony Club. Ned also was a member of the Echoes of the Past Tractor Club. He was always a tractor enthusiast, especially Internationals. Ned’s prize possession was his father’s M, which he restored. He enjoyed parades, tractor drives and farming with his dad. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Heighway, of Akron; daughters: Ginger and husband James Holloway, of Burket; Amy and husband Mike Murphy, of Akron; and Heather and husband Chris Griffith, of Syracuse; grandchildren: Kole, McKenzie, Gunnar, Emily, Brandt and Bo; sisters: Karen and husband Larry Wilson, of Montgomery, Ind.; and Sharon and husband Con Shewman, of Akron; sister-in-law, Sally Heighway, of Fountain City; several nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law: Dan Severns, Terry Severns and Gary and wife Janet Severns.

Ned was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ernie Heighway.

The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, 9798 W. 1000 S., Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating.

The interment will take place following the service in the Nichols Cemetery, Akron.

Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
