Staff Report-
North Central Co-op has awarded scholarships to 12 students from across Indiana and Michigan who are pursuing higher education during the 2015-2016 academic year. Since 2001, the cooperative has awarded more than 80 scholarships totaling more than $90,000 to post-secondary scholars, according to a provided press release. NCC scholarships were awarded to 11 young adults entering their freshman year of college, technical or trade school and one junior in college pursing an agriculture-related degree who earned the Darrell L. Smith Honorary Scholarship. Students were selected based on their contributions to local agricultural programs, academic achievements and involvement, and their career and education goals. Relation to a current patron or employee of NCC determined scholarship eligibility. NCC sponsors these scholarship awards in gratitude for the support provided by our farmer-owners and in support of the cooperative system. Local students receiving the 2015 scholarships included: • Joshwa Baker, Rochester, will graduate from Rochester High School and pursue a degree from Lincoln Tech in diesel technology this fall. Guardians are Connie and Mickey Baker. • Lindsey Dierks, North Manchester, is the daughter of Todd and Melissa Dierks and will graduate from Manchester High School. Lindsey will be attending Ivy Tech this fall to pursue a degree in agriculture. North Central Co-op is a full-service agricultural supply cooperative that is farmer-owned with its headquarters in Wabash.
