National VFW Commander To Visit

The national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Glen M. Gardner Jr., will visit Warsaw Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 1126 Friday at 3 p.m.

The stop will be part of a 15-city tour of Indiana beginning Wednesday

During his four-day visit, Gardner will brief local VFW posts on the progress of the organization's grassroots efforts to increase VA funding to provide sufficient long-term VA health care and how the VFW is supporting members of the military, National Guard, reserves and their families.

Gardner, who hails from Texas, was elected commander at the VFW's 109th national convention in August. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-1970. Gardner served as an aircraft mechanic with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group 12 in Chu Lai, Vietnam, 1968-69. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

The VFW assists all veterans and their families obtain veterans' entitlements and other services. In addition, the organization works for the well being of those serving on active duty, in the National Guard and the Reserves. The VFW was founded in 1899. There are 2.4 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries located in approximately 8,500 posts worldwide.
