Nathan D. Shepherd, 80, Warsaw, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 14, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born in David, Ky., to Sylvester and Nancy Nelson Shepherd on July 13, 1937. He was raised in Liberty Mills and went to Manchester High School. He was married to Juanita Prater on May 29, 1966, and they spent 51 wonderful years together.
At 17, Nathan began his service in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., for four years. Nathan worked at Dalton Foundry in Warsaw for 33 years and for the Kosciusko County courthouse for four years.
He was a trustee at God’s Highway to Heaven for 35 years. His favorite hobbies included mowing, working on tractors, racing cars, spending time with his family and being an active member in the church.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Shepherd, Warsaw; brothers, John (Dorothy) Shepherd, Wabash, and Abe (Laura) Shepherd, Silver Lake; children, Krystal and Burt Scarlett, Peru; Dale and Mary Shepherd, Peru; Julie and Vaughn Avery, Michigan; Nancy and Brian Marshall, Milford; and Mindi and Rodney Poehler, Frankfort, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many loving family members; and his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at God’s Highway to Heaven, with the Rev. Robert “Bob” Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
