NAPPANEE - Nappanee police misidentified one of the victims of a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning at North Side Manor Apartments.
Originally, the victim was identified as Jeffery T. Reames, 46, Elkhart; however, the actual victim was Stacy W. Wise, 39, Elkhart.
Wise was shot in the chest during an incident at 1200 N. Main St., Nappanee, around 1:55 a.m. Saturday. Police were called to the residence after receiving a report of shots fired and a person injured. Wise underwent surgery Saturday and remains in Elkhart General Hospital. He was listed in good condition as of this morning.
After arriving at the scene, police discovered that two people had been shot during an incident at the apartment. While both people were being taken to the hospital, two other people reportedly left the scene on foot. One man, Bobby J. Ragsdale, 21, Goshen, was found in a ditch bank with the help of K-9 officers and taken to the Nappanee Police Department for questioning.
Police say victims and witnesses are not cooperating and hindering the investigation of the incident.
The second victim in the incident, Anthony R. Hirsch, 19, Goshen, suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment and released shortly after.
So far police say they have a person of interest in the case, but no one is in custody and no one has been arrested.
Police have talked to about 12 people about the incident, but they still are looking for more information. Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Nappanee Police Department at 574-773-4111.
