Nappanee Man Held For Syracuse Arson

SYRACUSE - A 24-year-old Nappanee man is being held on arson and residential entry charges after a Saturday afternoon fire in Syracuse.

Syracuse Fire Department responded to a fire at 1400 Hillview Drive, Syracuse, Saturday around 1:55 p.m.Kyle Hire, 24, of 38670 CR 50, Nappanee, was booked into Kosciusko County Jail Monday afternoon after being treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital.

Hire reportedly was at the residence at the time firefighters responded, and he was treated for smoke inhalation.

According to police reports, Hire admitted to paramedics that he started the fire, though the motive behind the arson wasn't made public.

The fire was contained in several minutes and no one else was injured as a result of the blaze.

Hire is being held on a $10,000 bond for charges of residential entry, a class D felony, and arson of a permanent residence, a class B felony.

The investigation is ongoing by the Syracuse Police and Fire departments, as well as the Warsaw Fire Department.
