Nappanee Announces Fourth Of July Celebration Events

NAPPANEE – Nappanee Parks and Recreation Director of Programming Tiffany L. Salyer announced the city’s activities for the Fourth of July holiday.
At 9 a.m. is the Junior Olympics, with registration at 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Nappanee Rotary Club, ages 5-12 compete in fun activities for prizes.
Yoga in the Park, led by Margie Bowling, is at 10 a.m. There is no charge.
Bounce houses and face painting, with a small fee, are from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The parade is at 11 a.m. and travels from NorthWood High School to Callander Sportsplex. Lineup is at 10:30 a.m. Children are invited to participate in an old fashioned Kiddie Parade section toward the front of the parade with decorated bikes, wagons, scooters, costumes, pets, floats, etc. Two prizes will be awarded based on creativity, patriotism and originality. Judging takes place at 10:45 a.m. in the parade lineup before the parade begins. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of parade.
From noon to 1 p.m. is “Soapy Salute.” Wear your suit, bring a towel and goggles to play in the suds with the Park Department foam machine. There is no charge.
Also at noon is the Home Run Derby for kids ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Arrive early to register. Compete to see who can hit one over the fence. There is no charge and prizes will be awarded.
Free swim is at the city pool in Stauffer Park is from noon to 6 p.m., while the youth and adult obstacle course sponsored by the National Guard is from noon to 4 p.m.
Corn hole tournament starts at 2 p.m. Entry for each two-person team is $20, and cash prizes will be awarded. Arrive early to register.
Little Miss & Mr. Firecracker for ages 3-6 is at 3:30 p.m. It’s a patriotic pageant, so kids should dress up to celebrate Independence Day. Registration is required, and there will be prizes.
Nappanee’s Got Talent starts at 4 p.m. and is for all ages with all kinds of talent. Prizes will be awarded in two age groups -12 and under and 13 and over. Arrive early to register. Prizes will be awarded.
At 5 p.m., music by Simon Genesis Band starts the evening out with hits from the 1960s and ‘70s.
The sixth annual NappTown Huntdown is at 6:30 p.m. It is a digital scavenger hunt. Arrive early to register or register online at www.facebook.com/TheNappTownHuntDown. There is a small fee and prizes will be awarded.
The Country Jam Band begins at 7:30 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket for the music, and stay for the fireworks, which will begin at 10:15 p.m. or when dark, whichever is sooner.
