BOURBON — Nancy Kay Martin, Bourbon, passed away July 27, 2018, at home in the care of her family. She had been in failing health the past few months.
Nancy was born the daughter of George and Doris Kessler Feldman on Aug. 15, 1943, in Warsaw. She has been a lifelong resident.
Together with her husband, Dick, they created a family farm operation where she was always there to lend a hand, whether it be driving a tractor or other farm equipment, but mostly making sure a good meal was always delivered to those working the fields.
Nancy was a very committed person who was always interested in helping others in any way she could. She was a 4-H leader for over 55 years, where she helped many kids with 4-H projects. She was a well-renowned 4-H judge of clothing all over the state. Other interests include being an avid Triton sports fan, and she was in charge of the hospitality room for tournaments for over 30 years. She was an active member of Order of the Eastern Star and the Home Ec Club.
She was a faithful member of Bourbon First United Methodist Church, where she was part of the United Methodist Women (providing funeral meals and annual bazaar), a member of the church choir, and was always available for providing a children’s sermon on Sunday morning services. Another enjoyment she shared was the Sunday night Bible study at Pizza Hut, Plymouth, with her friends for the past several years.
In 1961 Nancy graduated from Bourbon High School. Her most significant career was being a farmer’s wife, homemaker and a tremendous mom, grandma and great-grandma caregiver who loved her grandchildren dearly.
On April 15, 1962, Nancy married her classmate Richard “Dick” Martin, who survives along with her three daughters: Mendy (Mike) Davis, Connie (Andy) Lemler, and Susan (Lars) Watson, all of Bourbon; eight grandchildren: Lane (Liz) Davis, Erin (Blake) Hesters, Paige (Paxson) Miller, Jodie (Brock) Vermillion, Austin (Aubrey) Davis, Katlyn Watson, Jarred Watson and Caleb Lemler; 10 great-grandchildren: Kathie and Kayden Vermillion; Bailey and Brantley Hesters; Graham, Emily and Claire Davis; Harper and Sawyer Davis; and Grayson Miller; and her brother, Don (Sarah) Feldman, South Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice Wagoner and brother Bobby Feldman.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Bourbon First United Methodist Church, 204 N. Washington St., Bourbon. Burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery, Argos.
The family welcomes you to help celebrate her life with a time of visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the church and for one hour before the services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon.
