ETNA GREEN - More information has been released about the accident that closed a portion of US 30 for about 14 hours Tuesday.

Westbound US 30 was closed from CR 350W to CR 650W from shortly after midnight until about 2 p.m. Tuesday after a pickup hit a semi-tanker filled with anhydrous ammonia, causing it to jack-knife and then overturn.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Daren Drake, 40, Paw Paw, Mich., was southbound on CR 500W when he failed to stop at the intersection with US 30.

Drake's pickup collided with a semi-tanker driven by Randy Pease, 54, of Roanoke.

Drake suffered a broken neck in the crash, and Pease complained of body pain. Both were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.

Crews transferred the anhydrous ammonia to another tanker before Pease's truck was picked up and cleared from the scene.

Police say Drake possibly was impaired or intoxicated at the time of the crash. Blood toxicology is pending.
