NORTH MANCHESTER – A 76-year-old man is in the intensive care unit after his helicopter crashed Sunday night.
Theodore Oldfather, North Manchester, was driving a small, single-engine, single-seat helicopter that went down in a grassy field around 6:13 p.m. Sunday, Wabash County Sheriff Ryan Baker said. Baker said the crash occurred approximately 1-1/2 miles west of North Manchester, just off of Ind. 114.
Oldfather was the only occupant of the aircraft, Baker said, and he was flown by Parkview Samaritan to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with critical head and internal injuries.
Parkview Hospital representatives said Oldfather is in critical condition.
No fire erupted from the crash.
Assisting the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office was Pleasant and Chester Township fire departments, Wabash County EMS, North Manchester Fire Department, Parkview Ambulance and North Manchester Police Department.
