AKRON – The Akron Area Arts League has scheduled four groups to play four consecutive Friday nights at the Community Square in Downtown Akron. All concerts are free. Bring your lawn chair and bug spray. Music is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Russ Chandler will kick off the series on July 24. He is a real crowd pleaser who sings old and new country, ’50s, ’60s rock and blues, according to a press release from the league. The following week, July 31, one of the area’s favorites, Sentimental Journeys, will play the Big Band sound – great dancing music. NightShift, another local favorite, will play Aug. 7. The band plays ’60s and ’70s rock and traditional country. Also, they are great for dancing, the release states. God’s County will finish the series Aug. 14 with old time rock ’n’ roll, classic country and high energy southern Gospel. In case of inclement weather, the show will be canceled. If in doubt, call Karen at 574-505-1450. These programs are funded in part by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission through regional partner St. Joseph County Community Foundation.
