MENTONE - Mrs. Lois Lemler, 101, formerly of Mentone, died at 4:57 p.m. Feb. 15, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints - Psalm 116.15.
She was born Jan. 21, 1907, in Newville, to Silas M. and Cora Belle Cauffman Hill. On Sept. 2, 1923, in Bourbon, she was married by her father, to Fred. D. Lemler, who died Jan. 24, 1979.
Moving to Mentone from Nappanee in 1926, she and her husband owned and operated L&B Foods, Mentone, for 43 years. She was a member of Mentone First Baptist Church, where she was an active choir member and pianist. She was a past worthy matron of Mentone Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Scrambled Egg Band and Mentone Reading Club. She was noted as having a saying for everything.
Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Bowser, Mentone, and Leah Nell (and spouse Stan) Yeiter, Atwood; a half sister, Marjorie (and spouse John) Knecht, North Manchester; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Gertrude Johnson Hill; a brother, Ellis Hill; two sisters, Cloe Whitman and Mildred Krider; and a son-in-law, Wayne Bowser.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mentone First Baptist Church, 301 N. Broadway St., Mentone, with Pastors Sam Yeiter, Charles Swihart and Michael Wilhite officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
