John Tucker isn't that common of a name, is it?
With four John Tuckers living in the county, it just might be. But an upcoming movie to be released this year has Maple Leaf Grille owner John Tucker a bit disturbed.
While recently surfing the Web, he came across the romantic comedy and its troubling title "John Tucker Must Die."
"When I first saw it, I just thought, 'you have got to be kidding me,'" he said. "I just hope it's not one of my old schoolmates that wrote it."
The film's storyline consists of three high school girls who try to sabotage their ex-boyfriend, John Tucker, who was discovered to be cheating on each of them at the same time.
While the overall plot doesn't coincide with the life of Warsaw's Tucker, smaller details of the movie's main character ironically match up.
"What's really weird is that this guy in the movie has a brother named Scott," Tucker said, who's own brother, Scott Tucker, also lives in Warsaw. "When I found that out, I couldn't help but feel paranoid."
The movie character also plays in a band, a hobby in common with the real Tucker.
"Is there somebody I need to sue for this?" Tucker said jokingly. "I think we should get all the John Tuckers together and protest this thing."
Tucker said he can't find who wrote the initial story that the movie is based on, though he's found credits for both the screenwriter and rewriter of the film. Until he discovers who's behind the actual naming of the film, the mystery of whether or not it's based on him will remain unanswered.
Although Tucker was taken aback when he first heard about the movie, he's come to enjoy the attention and ribbing he now gets on a daily basis.
And, as of Thursday, he hadn't received any death threats.
"Not recently anyway. I expect that to change after the movie," he said. "But it's fun. It's something for people to talk about."
Tucker will collect the movie's memorabilia once it hits local theaters. He also said he might throw a "John Tucker Must Die" party at his restaurant to celebrate the strange coincidence.
"I'm just glad they have a stud playing John Tucker," he said, referring to the main actor, Jesse Metcalfe. "Whoever's playing Scott Tucker must be a dweeb."
