On Tuesday night, Nov. 4, history was made and I wept tears of joy as America voted for change and hope for the working people of our nation. I stayed up late listening to Senators McCain's and Obama's speeches and was again moved. I woke up on Wednesday morning to the news that Indiana had elected Obama by a slight 1 percent margin and I wept again.

Then I read Linda Torpy's hate-filled nonsensical letter from the day before and was slightly deflated. I recalled Sen. McCain's concession speech, which was gracious and unifying and sincerely honorable; making me realize that there are many more reasonable conservatives in these great United States, who understand that no matter whom is elected, we must stand behind them.

While these letters often represent extremist right-wing opinions, I continue to be thankful that we have forums like this. We all deserve the privilege of voice, but it is abhorrent to spread non-facts and hate veiled as false Christianity that so many do here. Those will not be silenced, but reason did vote on Nov. 4.

I only wish those that went before us, that fought so hard for civil rights, could have been here with us.
