Motorcyclist Killed In Monday Collision

Posted
SCOTT TOWNSHIP – A Monday evening crash took the life of a 26-year-old man, who leaves behind a wife and two young children.

First responders were called at 5:59 p.m. Monday to CR 1100W, 2,000 feet south of CR 1200N, for a collision between a motorcycle and a van.

According to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis, first responders discovered a 2005 Yamaha YZF, driven by Bryce L. Hershberger, 26, Rochester, was traveling south on CR 1100W, when a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by Kathryn L. Miller, 69, Osceola, traveling north turned in front of Hershberger as she was making a left turn into a private driveway.

Hershberger’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of Miller’s van, resulting in all of the airbags in the van being deployed. Police said Hershberger was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Hershberger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Miller was not injured in the collision, and the accident is under investigation, Francis said.

As of Tuesday, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of Hershberger and reached over $8,000 of the $20,000 goal. The page can be found at www.gofundme.com/f/support-cathy-hershberger-and-children.

The page lists Cathy as his wife, and that he also leaves behind two small children. Lynlee May, the organizer of the GoFundMe page, said Hershberger was the main breadwinner for the family and that Cathy is a stay-at-home mom. All money raised will be used to help the family pay funeral expenses and bills such as rent and groceries.

Responding agencies include KCSO, Nappanee Police Department, Nappanee Fire Department, Nappanee Emergency Medical Service, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance.
