A Syracuse motorcylist who caused a June 30 accident is in the Kosciusko County Jail today charged with four counts of causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle (two counts are Class C felonies and two counts are Class D felonies); criminal recklessness, a Class D felony; and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.
Gary W. Meier, 45, of 204 S. Syracuse-Webster Road, Syracuse, was taken into custody at his residence about 9 p.m. Monday. He is being held on $1,000 bond.
According to police reports, Meier had a blood alcohol level of .187 percent when a blood test was performed at Goshen General Hospital shortly after the accident occurred.
At the time of the accident, Meier was eastbound on CR 1300N when he rear-ended an eastbound pickup driven by Edward Walter, 40, of New Paris.
Walter's pickup then veered into the westbound lane and sideswiped another car before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Walter suffered head injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Meier was admitted to Goshen General Hospital after the accident that was investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
