Dan Morrison, who almost won a contested primary in 2012, announced he will be a candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 2nd District.
Morrison, a Democrat from Elkhart, won nine out of 10 counties in the second district with 46 percent of the vote in the 2012 democratic primary.
This seat is currently held by Jackie Walorski.
He has lived and worked in Indiana for 35 years, becoming a full-time resident 27 years ago. He worked for Fortune 500 companies, the recreational vehicle industry and started his own small business.
All of these experiences he said have prepared him to serve the people of the 2nd district.
While working his way through Milikin University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science along with a minor in business administration.
During those college years he worked at Norfolk & Western Railroad on a section gang and at A.E. Staley Manufacturing, where he was an active member of the AFL-CIO throwing 100- and 140-pound bags of dextrose and starch into box cars.
Morrison and his wife, Nancy, belong to St. Thomas Church where she serves as a eucharistic minister and he serves as a lector.
He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 35 years, and an Elk member for 21 years.
Their children, Douglas, Jennifer, Lee and Blake, all graduated from Marian High School and attended Holy Cross before heading to Indiana University, Chicago Loyola and Notre Dame.
