Morrison Recognized For Council Service

Warsaw city councilmen were sworn in during Monday's Warsaw City Council meeting.

The general election was Nov. 6.

Judge Rex Reed swore in Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins; Jeff Grose, District 1 council seat; Charles Smith, District 2 council seat; George Clemens, District 3 council seat; Jerry Patterson, District 4 council seat; and Bill Rhoades, District 5 seat.

Joe Thallemer and Kyle Babcock will serve as councilmen at-large. Babcock replaces city councilman Bob Morrison, effective Jan. 1.Wiggins presented Morrison with a plaque for his years of service on the council. He has served on the council since 2004.

Morrison said he has enjoyed serving on the council.

"I've never worked with more sincere men who have the city's interest at heart, and I have always tried to do what is best for the city," Morrison said.

The council also approved, on second reading, a traffic control ordinance amendment for speed zones that states the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour on CR 300N from Detroit Street west to 350 feet west of Sheldon Drive; the speed limit shall be 45 miles per hour on CR 300N from 350 feet west of Sheldon Drive, west to the city limits and school zone speed limits may be set at 10 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit.

The Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission recommended the speed zone changes.

The council also:

n Approved a 10-year tax abatement request from DePuy Orthopedics for a personal and real property tax abatement for property rehabilitation and new manufacturing equipment at 700 and 715 Orthopedics Drive.

DePuy will invest $9 million in personal property or manufacturing equipment and $9 million in real property rehabilitation.

DePuy does not anticipate hiring any new employees.

n Approved an ordinance to transfer $5,000 from professional services to capital outlay from the council general fund for the Lake City Greenway Beyer Farm Trail construction project.

n Approved a Warsaw Fire Department activity report for November with 109 responses.
