Morehouse Completes Scout Project In Mentone

Posted

Jack and Jill Preschool in Mentone has a current enrollment of 46 students. When Robert Morehouse, Life Scout, saw the need for a playground he went to work. The next rank after Life scout is Eagle Scout, and to obtain the rank a community service project must be done. A playground for the preschool would not only serve the students but the United Methodist Church congregation as well as the Mentone community. Planning for the project began in May. After 79 planning hours and funds being raised, the project was ready to begin. Members of Robert’s Venturing crew 2715, Boy Scouts from Troop 782 and 715, friends and family raked, leveled and shoveled two tons of pea gravel to prep the ground while others constructed and painted the play equipment. A retaining wall needed to be built to level out the ground before placing the play equipment. Once the bulk of the project was complete, Custom Fencing donated their time and powder-coated aluminum fencing to provide safety to all the children while outside playing. Custom Fencing also provided new staircase railing and a gate, replacing the existing, due to wear and for safety as well. After a total of 237 man hours the project was complete. Morehouse thanks Custom Fencing for its donation and to Lowe’s and Builder’s Mart for their donation of building materials. The students at Jack and Jill Preschool love the playground and use it almost everyday.
