NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Community Center recently held a charity auction and raffle to raise money to help with its operating costs.
After all was said and done, the event raised $94,418. After deducting expenses the net was $77,000.
It will be used to help defray the annual budget of the center which is more than $300,000 a year.
The center receives no tax dollars and is funded by individuals, foundations, and the partnership of our tenants. The total income for the event was made possible by our many sponsors and a great effort by more than 17 merchants selling raffle tickets.
Jon Sroufe, presidenet of the community center's board of directors, thanked all of those who worked extra hard to make this event a success. Sroufe and the rest of the board recognized American Legion Post 253 for all their efforts and their sponsorship of the raffle and a special thanks to Brian Wuthrich of Hahn Auctioneers for volunteering his auction skills that brought in more than $31,000.
The board also thanked Dick Miller. Miller won the raffle of a 20-foot suncruiser pontoon with a 40-horsepower motor. Miller gave the pontoon back which was then auctioned for $16,000 to Marilyn Baney
Baney then sold it to Mike and Tim Jones for $12,000.
The Joneses were the second highest bidders for the pontoon.
According to NWCC Executive Director Tracy May, Baney then took that $12,000 and donated it to the North Webster Senior Center.
