Kosciusko Lakes and Streams held another successful field day at Lucerne Park in Warsaw Wednesday.
More than 360 students from schools all over the county were on hand to learn about lakes as well as conservancy and how to care for natural resources.
Students from Leesburg, North Webster, Syracuse, Claypool, Sacred Heart and several home-school groups enjoyed a picture-perfect day near Pike Lake.
That included fishing where they learned to identify different fish in the lake.
Leesburg Elementary fourth-grade teacher Shea Proctor said he felt that Wednesday’s events were beneficial for his students.
“It’s hard to get a lot of science education in the classroom so anytime we can it’s a great opportunity,” said Proctor.
Rose Smith is a fourth-grade teacher at Sacred Heart.
While her kids were learning about water testing, she said she loved the aspect of hands-on learning.
“When we teach this later on in the year I can refer back to today,” said Smith.
Smith said her class enjoyed all the stations the kids went to and felt the lessons were all grade-appropriate.
Grace College students were at different stations to teach lessons to kids and help them understand different concepts.
KLAS Director Dr. Nate Bosch said he was thankful to have corporate sponsors Indiana American Water, The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and The Paper on board to help put on Wednesday’s event.
