More Candidates Seeking Office

Another candidate has filed for the District 1 seat on the Syracuse Town Council for the primary election.

Republican Larry J. Siegel, 609 E. North Shore Drive, Syracuse, filed his candidacy in the past several days to challenge incumbent Michael Davis.

Also, a third candidate has filed for one of the two open seats on the Whitko School Board. Ervin "Pete" Mitchell, District 2, 2545 N. CR 450W, Columbia City, will go against Lawrence R. Long, District 3, and E. Marie Trump, District 1.

Other new candidacy filings in the past week include:

• Scott Township Trustee: Democrat Fred A. Slabaugh, 13908 N. CR 950W, Nappanee.

• Tippecanoe Township Trustee: Democrat David L. "Buck" Burns, 144 EMS B43, Leesburg; Democrat Melody G. Sherwood, 64 EMS W26 Lane, North Webster.

• Van Buren Township Trustee: Republican Patrice L. Hurd, 511 W. Emeline St., Milford.

• Washington Township Trustee: Republican Dean E. Rhoades, 814 S. CR 900E, Pierceton.

• Franklin Township board: Republican Paul R. Haist, 12947 W. CR 500S, Mentone; Republican William A. Leininger, 8370 W. CR 1000S, Akron.

• Jefferson Township board: Republican Dee Ann Beer, 13640 N. Gravelton Road, Nappanee.

• Wayne Township board: Republican Jane A. Edmond, 2273 S. Paxton Drive, Warsaw.

• Prairie 2 precinct committeeman: Republican C. Alan Rovenstine, 114 N. Harrison St., Atwood.

• Tippecanoe 1 precinct committeeman: Republican Kay L. Andrews, 301 Mulberry Road, North Webster.

• Van Buren 2 precinct committeeman: Republican Robert J. Beer, 505 W. Emeline St., Milford.

• Warsaw 1-2 precinct committeeman: Democrat Steven R. Haines, 1223 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw.

• Warsaw 5-1 precinct committeeman: Republican Warren Tatter, 325 Gilliam Drive, Warsaw.

• Wayne 3 precinct committeeman: Republican Janice Workman, 903 Esplanade, Winona Lake.

Candidate filing for the primary election began Jan. 23 and ends at noon on Feb. 22.

The primary election will be May 7 and voter registration closes on April 8.
