KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Warsaw native and SMU guard Nic Moore scored nine points with five assists and two steals in 29 minutes for Kansas in the Jayhawks’ 91-83 exhibition win over Team Canada Tuesday night in Kansas City. Moore is on loan from SMU as KU will represent the United States in the World University Games next month in South Korea. Moore is filling a vacancy on the Jayhawk roster as Kansas has two players on its roster who weren’t born in the U.S. Moore scored five of KU’s first nine points but overall went 2-for-7 shooting and 1-for-5 from three on a night KU hit five of 18 threes. KU junior guard Frank Mason led all scorers with 28 points, 24 coming in the second half. “Nic got off to a good start tonight, then didn’t find any rhythm after that,” Kansas head coach Bill Self told Lawrence Journal-World reporter Gary Bedore. “He deferred to Frank late which is good, but we don’t want that. We want Nic to make plays, too. “Nic is good for Frank and Devonté (Graham, an injured Kansas player). He came in the first day and controlled the whole practice. He’s smart, talks. He’s little (5-foot-9) so he has to take advantage of intangibles. It’s a shame Devonté can’t play (in University Games in South Korea). He would have benefited from playing with Nic, as well.” Kansas will play a second exhibition game against Team Canada Friday night before both squads depart for South Korea on Sunday. The World University Games begin July 3.
