According to his Twitter account, former Warsaw Community High School and Illinois State University point guard Nic Moore has found a new home. At approximately 9 p.m. Thursday, Moore tweeted “SMU will be the next stop.” Transferring to Southern Methodist University, which will join the Big East Conference in 2013, Moore will be reunited with former Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich. Jankovich, who resigned from Illinois State shortly after the season ended, is the associate head coach at SMU. Former NBA coach Larry Brown, who has been the head man with the Indiana Pacers amongst other teams, was named the head coach at SMU in April. Per NCAA rules, Moore, a Winona Lake native, will have to sit out the 2012-2013 season. Moore, a 2011 graduate of WCHS and the Tigers’ second all-time leading scorer, was granted his release from Illinois State in May. During his freshman season for the Redbirds, Moore started 29 games and averaged 10 points and nearly four assists per contest. He gained national attention with a string of 20-plus point games during the postseason, as Illinois State advanced to the championship game of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and later knocked off Mississippi State in the first round of the NIT. Moore scored 1,891 points during his career at Warsaw and guided the Tigers to a 23-3 record and Class 4A state finals appearance in 2010. As a senior, Moore was the runner-up for the Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Basketball award. During his one season at Illinois State, Moore was named to the Missouri Valley’s All-Freshman Team. According to previous reports, Moore had narrowed his interest to Illinois, Notre Dame and Purdue.
