A South Bend man convicted of aggravated battery and criminal recklessness was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison.
Raymond Montgomery, 23, was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court to 15 years for aggravated battery and four years for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Montgomery was found guilty in an October jury trial of shooting Luis Martinez Diaz in the leg at the Leesburg Deli Mart on Oct. 21, 1995.
The aggravated battery conviction, a Class B felony, and the criminal recklessness, a Class C felony, stemmed from the severity of Diaz's wounds.
Montgomery had two prior Class D felony convictions, which made this sentence non-suspendible. The maximum sentence for the convictions was 20 years.
