Two area men are in the hospital this morning following a Monday night accident, while a Bourbon teen is recovering from injuries suffered in an accident Friday.

Kevin L. Higgins, 32, North Turkey Creek Road, Syracuse, and Thomas M. McDowell, no age available, North CR 175E, Warsaw, were injured in a one-car accident at 11:34 p.m. Monday.

Their vehicle was westbound on CR 900N, west of CR 425W, near Nappanee, when it left the road. Authorities said the car flipped over several times before coming to rest on its roof.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

Both men were admitted to Goshen General Hospital, but condition reports were not available this morning.

Authorities report that high speed and alcohol were allegedly factors in the accident. Neither man was wearing a seat belt when the wreck occurred.

Other units assisting at the scene were the Nappanee Fire Department, police and EMS.

Meanwhile, Trenton J. Smith, 16, Bourbon, is listed in fair condition at a Fort Wayne Hospital recuperating from injuries suffered in an 8:31 p.m. Friday accident. Smith suffered head, neck and chest injuries in the collision.

The sheriff's department reports Smith failed to yield the right of way in the crossover intersection at U.S. 30 and Ind. 19, Etna Green. Smith allegedly pulled into the path of a semi driven by Roger Mayne, Spencer, W.Va.

Smith was pinned inside his vehicle and was removed with the help of an extrication tool. Mayne was uninjured.

Authorities reported the Smith vehicle appeared to be stuck on the front of the semi as it traveled off the road and into a ditch. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Also assisting at the scene were Etna Green Rescue and Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.

Both accidents remain under investigation by the KCSD.
