Mo-Ped Rider Suffers Minor Injury In Downtown WarsawA Claypool man suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon when the driver of a van wasn’t paying attention to a red light downtown Warsaw, causing the man’s mo-ped to hit the side of the van.
Robbie G. Ankrom, 50, South Ind. 15, Claypool, had a cut to his right elbow and was bleeding. EMS arrived on the scene, but Ankrom refused medical treatment.
The accident occurred at about 3 p.m. Monday.
Cheryl L. Wise, 49, North Columbia Street, Warsaw, was traveling east in a 2005 Chevy van on East Market Street. As she approached the intersection with South Indiana Street, she was talking to her passenger and did not realize the light turned red, according to a Warsaw Police Department accident report. Wise said she ran the red light, causing Ankrom’s mo-ped to collide with the driver’s side of her van. The van sustained damage to the driver’s side middle/rear areas of the vehicle.
Ankrom told police he was traveling south on South Indiana Street, approaching the intersection with East Market Street. He said he had a green light and proceeded into the intersection. As he entered the intersection, the van also crossed into the intersection, crossing in front of him. Ankrom said he was not able to avoid the collision and his mo-ped hit the van.
The mo-ped sustained damage to the front area and the left and right sides.
