The life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be observed in at least two ways in Kosciusko County this year.
"Living the Dream in the New Millennium" is the theme of the this year's 12th annual observance by the Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The program, Jan. 17 at Center Lake Pavilion, is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and will include lunch.
The keynote speaker at the program will be Dr. Tom Stallter, chairman of the department of intercultural studies at Grace College and Seminary.
Special music and award presentations also will be included.
According to the committee, there are three purposes behind the annual program:
To provide an annual forum for Kosciusko County to commemorate the birth date and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.;
To celebrate the positive progress and community impact that has been made by minorities in Kosciusko County business, church, education and government;
And to continue to seek opportunities to promote diversity in all areas of life in our county and community.
There is no charge to attend the program, but donations at the door are welcome.
Wawasee High School will host "Keeping the Dream Celebration 2000," which will feature special music, a special history presentation by the Amy Vanlaningham Society and guest speaker Joseph Banks.
The event, sponsored by the AVS, the Rays of Hope and Rock Church Life Enrichment Center, is free and open to the public.
The program is scheduled for Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Wawasee High School.
