The 16th annual Martin Luther King Jr. community celebrations are scheduled for Jan. 18 and 19 at Rodeheaver Auditorium, Winona Lake.
This year's theme is "The Content of Your Character."
On Sunday, a gospel music concert will be held at Rodeheaver featuring the choir from the Greater Progressive Baptist Church, Fort Wayne. The Rev. Ternae Jordan, GPBC pastor, will be on hand to welcome patrons and to open the program.
Monday, Jan. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be the annual Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon celebration, featuring Edgewood and Lakeview middle school students performing drama and songs.
The focus of the luncheon, besides recognizing and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be on life lesons about character development, such as love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The 2004 Academic Excellence Awards winners also will be presented with their awards at the luncheon.
There are no charges for either program, but donations are accepted.
