Sue Ann Mitchell was recognized as one of two 2007 Outstanding County Auditors by the Association of Indiana Counties this week.

According to an AIC press release, Mitchell was awarded in recognition of her contributions made to county government throughout her years of public service. Mitchell was elected as county auditor in 1998.

Mitchell shares the 2007 award with Dubois County auditor Martha Wehr.

The award was presented during the AIC's annual conference, the largest gathering of county officials in the state. The four-day conference included 11 workshops, and breakout sessions that were designed specifically for each county office.

County officials also had informal opportunities to discuss issues with their colleagues from other areas of the state. Officials discussed and offered solutions for issues facing local governments.

Representatives from public agencies, private entities, universities and local elected officials addressed issues including regional voting centers, the impact of trending, long-term solutions for local road funding, alternative revenue sources and healthcare costs for local governments.
