Mistakes Cost Manchester

CONVERSE -ÊOak Hill's football team ended any Manchester hopes of sharing the Three Rivers Conference title with a 19-7 Friday win.

Oak Hill, ranked No. 9 in class 2A, improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the TRC. Manchester fell to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the TRC.

Manchester outgained Oak Hill in total yards 211-196, but the Squires canceled that out with mistakes.

Oak Hill took a 2-0 lead in the second quarter on a safety when the Squires botched a punt attempt that sailed into the end zone. Good field position as a result of the safety led to an Oak Hill field goal, giving the Golden Eagles a 5-0 halftime lead.

Manchester began the second half by fumbling on the second play, setting up a 21-yard touchdown run by Oak Hill quarterback Ty Henderson. Oak Hill led 12-0. Henderson added a 2-yard run later in the quarter to make it 19-0.

"We would flush Henderson out of the pocket, but then he would get yards on broken plays," Manchester coach Al Bailey said. "Oak Hill has a lot of weapons with 6-(foot)-7, 6-5 wide receivers and Henderson leading the conference in rushing."

Manchester's Josh Peden finished with 79 rushing yards on 18 carries. Henderson rushed for 60 yards on 23 carries.
