In response to the letter quoting scriptures saying animals have souls: So far, I have checked the following five different versions: KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT and CEV.
Neither verse say that animals have souls. I quote from NKJV Gen.1:24: "Then God said, let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind; cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind, and it was so." Prov.12:10: "A righteous man regards the life of his animals, but the mercies of the wicked are cruel."
I agree we have a moral obligation to care for our animals per Prov. 12:10, but we shouldn't misquote God's Word to fit our personal beliefs or agenda.
