Minor Injuries In 6-Vehicle U.S. 30 CrashOnly minor injuries were reported from a six-vehicle accident Tuesday on U.S. 30 and Parker Street in?Warsaw.
According to the Warsaw Police Department accident report, at approximately 3:36 p.m. Tuesday, Brant A. Jones, 44, Hartford City, was driving a fully-loaded dump truck westbound on U.S. 30 approaching Parker Street. Jones looked down to pick up his soda and when he looked back up, traffic had stopped.
Jones’ vehicle then rear-ended a 2016 Subaru Forester driven by Jason E. Smedley, 51, West CR 700N, Larwill.
Smedley said he was westbound on U.S. 30 and was slowing down in traffic for a red traffic light. Smedley’s vehicle was then hit by Jones’ dump truck, which spun Smedley’s vehicle around.
Christopher Foreman, 36, East CR 300N, Warsaw was driving westbound on U.S. 30 in a 2013 Toyota Scion when he was approaching Parker Street. Foreman said traffic had slowed down abruptly and he swerved into the right lane to avoid rear-ending Smedley’s vehicle, which he was traveling behind. Foreman said as he swerved into the right lane, his vehicle was hit by Jones’ vehicle after Jones’ vehicle hit Smedley’s vehicle. Foreman’s vehicle was pushed to the north side of U.S. 30.
Jose E. Juarez Chavez, 45, South Hunters Ridge, Warsaw, was in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 in a 2017 GMC Sierra. He was stopped in traffic for the red light. Chavez said his vehicle was hit by Jones’ vehicle after Jones hit Smedley’s and Foreman’s vehicles.
Joanne H. Richards, 82, Petaluma, Calif., said she was in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 near Parker Street stopped in traffic due to the red light in a 2019 Ford Escape. Richards said her vehicle was rear-ended by Chavez’s vehicle. Richards’ vehicle was pushed into the rear of a 2017 Freightliner Semi driven by Jose Lorenzo, 57, Hammond.
Lorenzo said he was in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 when the light turned green he was beginning to go when he was rear-ended by Richards’ vehicle.
A passenger in Smedley’s vehicle, Laura Smedley, 50, West CR 700N, Larwill, complained of pain to the face and had minor bleeding. Chavez said he had shoulder pain, but refused medical treatment.
