Minnie Johnetta Brooks

Posted
Mrs. Minnie Johnetta Brooks, 82, Warsaw, passed away at 3:52 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2017, in her residence.

She was born Sept. 16, 1934, in East Chicago, to Johnetta Covington and Thomas Bass. She committed her life to Christ at an early age and served as an active member on Antioch Missionary Baptist Church's usher board until relocating to Warsaw in 2008.

Mrs. Minnie Brooks was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Gary, class of 1952. Mrs. Minnie retired from Card-O-Links after serving 35 years, but decided that her work wasn't done yet. Minnie continued to work for the city of East Chicago as a recreational supervisor at Goodman Park until her health decided otherwise. Minnie loved her children and grandchildren immensely and loved to spend time with her family. She was very creative, spending hours painting and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed playing dominoes and “Keno” with her family. Minnie's genuine spirit will truly be missed.

Mrs. Minnie Brooks departed on July 2, 2017. She was preceded in death by her mother, Johnetta Covington; father, Thomas Bass; great-granddaughter, Heaven Wilbert; and son-in-law, Robert Wilbert.

She leaves to cherish her memories her aunt, Alice Bennett; children: Lloyd Gordon, Bobby Gordon (Leslie), Morris Wilkerson (Pam), Johnetta Renee Wilbert and Lynette McLaurin; grandchildren: Robert (Erika) Bruce, Lloyd (Keesha) Bruce, Ronnie (Benita) Guy, Michael Bruce, Kyle Wilbert (Angela), Karl Wilbert, BJ Gordon, Christy Gordon, Morris Wilkerson Jr., Malaysia Wilkerson, Anthony Gordon and Antonio Gordon; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and close family friends Charlene Gordon, Laura Guyand and Tam Stephens. She will be missed.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Pastor Mark Frazier will officiate the services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
